The Jesuits USA Central and Southern Province is set to participate in the #iGiveCatholic campaign for the first time this fall.
This campaign will allow donors and friends of the UCS Province from anywhere in the world to donate online. This virtual “event” will occur on what has become known as Giving Tuesday, which this year falls on November 30 – the Tuesday immediately following Thanksgiving. In recent years it has been the most generous giving day across the nation.
Numerous Catholic organizations and institutions – parishes, schools and retreat houses alike – have long participated in Giving Tuesday, and this year, the UCS Province is joining the effort. You will be able to donate beginning November 15 here.
All donations made on November 30 (from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.) will go toward our men in formation.
Jesuits spend between nine and 13 years in formation, a period of training that includes higher education, experiential learning and personal growth – skills that are essential to each man’s development and ensure a successful active ministry as a Jesuit priest or brother.
On average, each Jesuit’s formation studies costs the province a total of approximately $450,000. There are currently about 60 men in formation in our province. It is our hope that your generosity on Giving Tuesday will help us in financing this great, but necessary expense.
The idea to participate in Giving Tuesday came from Paula K. Parrish, CFRE, new chief advancement officer of the province.
“Giving Tuesday is such an important day for nonprofits across the country, and we wanted to join in on this effort,” Parrish said. “The Society of Jesus is proud to advance the broader mission of the Catholic Church, and therefore we are happy to align ourselves with the #iGiveCatholic effort.”
