News Story

Fr. O’Keefe with Grace Regan and Congressman Stephen Lynch.

April 19, 2023 – On April 12, 2023, more than 60 Jesuit friends and alumni gathered at the law offices of Nutter McClennan and Fish to enjoy reigniting the long-standing support of Jesuits, Jesuit ministries and Ignatian Spirituality in the Boston area.

Host Bill Kennedy, HC’76, welcomed his Holy Cross classmate and USA East Provincial, Fr. Joseph M. O’Keefe, SJ, to the Boston seaport. Congressman Stephen Lynch and District Attorney, Marian Ryan, who are both alumni of Boston College Law, along with the Superior General of the Sisters of Notre Dame deNamur, Sr. Mary Johnson, SNDdeN, all joined in mingling with other Jesuit-educated alumni and lay leaders.

Congressman Stephen Lynch addressed the group and said that Jesuit ideals are what are needed most in Congress right now, especially remembering how to be men and women for and with others.

Fr. O’Keefe then spoke to the group about the four Apostolic Preferences and how these Jesuit goals are being met throughout the USA East from Maine to Georgia and in Micronesia: Showing the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises, Walking with the poor and those on the margins, accompanying young people in the creation of a hope-filled future and collaborating in the care of the earth, our common home.

Thanks to this event and Bill Kennedy’s groundbreaking efforts, the USA East Province is looking forward to a robust return of the Jesuit GALA to Boston in Spring 2024.
