Jesuit Father Edward A. Flint died on July 5, 2016, at the Colombiere Center in Michigan.

Jesuit Father Edward A. Flint, 79, died on July 5, 2016. Fr. Flint was born on July 23, 1936, in Detroit. He spent his senior year of high school at the University of Detroit High School, where he graduated in 1954. Before entering the Society of Jesus, Fr. Flint earned a bachelor’s degree in English (1958) and a master’s degree in philosophy (1960) from the University of Detroit.

He entered the Society of Jesus on September 1, 1960, at Colombiere College in Clarkston, Michigan. He was ordained on May 31, 1969, in Clarkston, Michigan. He took final vows on March 19, 1976, at the University of Detroit in Detroit, Michigan.

While in the Society, Fr. Flint earned a Licentiate in Philosophy from Saint Louis University (1964), a Master of Divinity degree from Bellarmine School of Theology in North Aurora, and a master’s degree in marriage counseling from the University of Detroit (1978).

As a Jesuit, Fr. Flint served the people of God in many ways including teaching and counseling. During regency (1964-1966) and after ordination (1971-1975), he taught English and theology at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland. Fr. Flint served as a counselor for many years at the Westside Community Health Center (1979-1981) and Saint Ignatius High School (1980-1983) and as a substance abuse counselor at Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel, Alaska.

 

Fr. Flint also used his business skills to help others. He assisted in building maintenance (1981-1986) and was the assistant treasurer (1983-1986) at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland. He was the village services manager at the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska (1993-1994). He also was the business manager for the Detroit Province Office (1997-2000).

 

Fr. Flint spent much of his time in pastoral ministry. He served as pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Marshall, Alaska (1994-1996). During his time at Holy Rosary St. John’s Parish in Columbus, Ohio (2000-2003), Fr. Flint was superior of the Jesuit community. He was also a chaplain at the Dominican Mother House in Oxford, Michigan (2004-2007).

 

After moving to Colombiere Center in 2007, Fr. Flint performed pastoral ministry until health issues prevented him. He died on July 5, 2016 at Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Michigan. He was 79 years old.
